Oh my gosh if you like chocolate, or really anything sweet for that matter, these are for you! These oat bars are so frickin’ good and they take a less than an hour to make. They’re ooey-gooey, chocolatey, sweet and savory, and crunchy on the outside and chewy not the inside; they’re everything a dessert lover dreams of. SO GOOD!!
What You Need:
(makes 8 bars)
-1 cup rolled oats
-1/2 cup gf flour (regular works fine)
-1/2 cup melted butter or oil fat
-1/2 cup chocolate chunks (I like milk chocolate)
-1/2 tsp kosher salt
-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Steps:
**Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit (325 degrees for convection ovens)
1.In a large bowl combine rolled oats, flour, sugar, and salt. Mix together thoroughly.
2.Pour in melted fat of choice, and vanilla extract.
3.Stir everything until the ingredients form a loose dough, it’ll resemble a streusel.
4.Line a 5×9 baking dish with tinfoil. Grease and lightly flour the tinfoil (dusting flour over a greased surface ensures minimal stickage!).
5.Pour the dough/streusel into baking dish and place plastic wrap over top. The plastic wrap with act as barrier between the dough and your hands. Press out the dough into an even layer, make sure it’s pushed out to all edges and corners. Pressed down on the dough so it’s dense, with little air; this way, after baking it can be cut into bars and hold its shape rather than crumbing into a billion little pieces.
6.Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbling and slightly golden brown on top.
7.Let cool COMPLETELY before cutting into bars. I know, it’s tough but I promise it’s worth the wait. Cutting the bars too soon will result in a crumbly mess.
8. Cut into bars and serve 🙂
